is it all oil?
why are we in iraq? was my friend sent to iraq to stop oppression, to maintain my american 'rights' or to make my next stop at superquick a cheaper fill up? if we are staying in iraq to help the iraqis set up another competitive, money-driven, "safe" society -- why aren't we doing the same in haiti, where renegades rule the streets with their firearms? why isn't america offering our protection to provide the haitians with a fair, controlled election? the u.s. government was asked to provide such assistance but said no multiple times. oh, yeah, the haitians don't have clean water either. any ideas?

We must not be in Haiti because we're working so hard for peace and security in Rwanda, Bosnia, Sudan, Ireland, Palestine, and Bolivia!

so are our decisions of 'justice' based safety and economic gain? doesn't sound very just to me.

Unfortunately that seems to be the American way. I would say at least 80% of Americans make decisions on safety and money, especially if you have a family. Noonen is one of those exceptions to the rule. But most people take a job because it pays more and moves them into a better neighborhood where it is safer. When you are charged by Americans who think that way to take care of America, your decisions are probably going to follow the same way of thinking. I am not saying it is the Christian way to do things. However, I think Bush truly felt he was doing what was best for his family (America) that he has been placed in charge of. Unfortunately the type of person who will truly follow the true teaching of peace is not the same type of person who has the traits it takes to get voted president. We will always have to take the good with the bad in the USA. If we want our goverment to pay more attention to the "smaller" injustices of the world we as Christians need to let our voices be heard. And not just in our blogs. We need to email and write to reps and congressmen and the White House to let them know we think they are important enough for use of our troops.

Your friend was sent to Iraq because he chose to go and protect our great country where ever our goverment sees fit. Our goverment doesn not always make the best choices on where. But anyone who joins the military is well aware of this and has an optimism about our country that many of us do not have. I for one am greatful that your friend is willing to take those steps to stop oppression for what ever reason. Your friend doesn't get a say in what oppression he gets to stop. But he has an optimism that he is still making a difference and stopping any form of oppression and protecting our country any way he can. Thank your friend for me!!!

Sorry Travis, I didn't even realize I didn't leave my name. This is Jamie Parry. I had not read your 4 or 5 replys back and forth about our speaking out in goverment until just now. I agree that we are too concerned with personal rights when we speak out. But we definetely need to speak out to our goverment. Paul used his status as a Roman citizan to its fullest potential (sp?) to help spread the message of Christ. America is undeniably one of the strongest nationest the world has seen. It has a great power and Christians of America, I think, have a responsibility to help try and direct where that powered is aimed. If it is aimed at us (in a bad way), oh well. Rome aimed at us (Christians) and we survived and even thrived. But there is a lot of good that this power can be aimed at and we need to help aim the good that it can do to those who need it most. Ok, I'll leave it at that for now. Blessings, Travis.

i would guess it's because haiti din't harbor or financially support the all-to-soon-forgotten bombings and killings of the fine american citizens in the twin towers. governments exist to enforce law, punish law-breakers and protect it's citizenry.
